Pioritize Safety Above Wealth” Uko Umoh Advises Etinan Residents

The Chairman of Etinan local government area, Hon Uko Umoh, has advised people to prioritize safety and health above every other considerations in their pursuit of daily bread.

The Chairman was speaking while inspecting the level of compliance by residents of Etinan to the monthly sanitation exercise ordered by the Akwa Ibom state government.

He condemned the building of make shift structures under public electric wires, saying, such was a risk no government will tolerate.

The Chairman who inspected the distilling of gutters along Uyo road also frowned at the poor sanitary condition of Etinan central market.

Hon Uko Umoh announced sanitation exercise for the market on Monday July 27, 2026. He also announced the take over of the market by the local government administration stressing that, it was disheartening to see the market in such poor sanitary condition where there are no toilet facilities while a block of shops had been condemned to waste.

“I will take over the market and restructure the market. Every market belongs to the government not communities”

One of the residents, Engr. Andy Johnson, called for a waste receptacle for the market where waste can be gathered for easier evacuation by appropriate government agency.

On the proposed clean up exercise at Etinan Central market, the Council Chairman assured the traders of a truck to help evacuate the waste.

The Chairman was accompanied by the Vice Chairman, Hon Imaobong Michael, Supervisor for Environment, Hon Itoro Eduok, Supervisor for Education, Hon Ime Okpon, Personal Assistant to the governor for Etinan Urban Ward 1, Hon Ekaete Etuknwa, Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Pastor Ubong Inyang, APC Woman Leader in Etinan, Mrs Kufre Isong, Chairman of Etinan local government area committee on sanitation, Mr.Ikanke Ikpong Isaac.
