Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has urged the Senate of the federal Republic of Nigeria to expounge the controversial ban on preaching in buses from the amended Federal Road Safety Establishment Act.
Appearing before Channels TV breakfast show on Wednesday August 5th, 2026, President of PFN, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, insisted the church would rather obey God than men.
Arguing further, the PFN President said there are many other contending issues that should get the attention of the Senate of which a ban on preaching inside buses is not one of it.
He posited that the Christian faith is not protected by the constitution of Nigeria such that in a secular state like ours, one religion (Islam) is mentioned over a hundred times while Christianity is mentioned only once.
“The Senate should be concerned about giving Nigerians a constitution that is truly their own. The Senate should be concerned about the number times Islam is mentioned in the constitution of a secular state, the Senate should be concerned why Nigeria is listed among countries in the organisation of Islamic countries.
“They should be concerned about the killings in Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, Taraba and Borno states and not on a ban on preaching in buses. We will not obey this law, let the authority come and imprison us or worse behead us. If the item had been there since 2007, it is time to remove it completely because we will not stop preaching even inside buses” he asserted.
Bishop Oke also supported the call by the Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria for an independent electoral umpire ahead of the 2027 election, saying, an attack on the conference is a direct attack on the Church as a whole.
“Is the nation not bleeding? Are Christians not being killed in southern Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, Taraba or Borno states? We are all one and there is no lie in what the Bishop’s conference told the President”
