Hon. Martins Esin, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Youth Development, has lauded Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State for the decision to create a stand-alone Ministry of Youth Development.

The new ministry, which is carved out from the former Ministry of Youth and Sports, is aimed at prioritizing the development and welfare of young people in the state.

Speaking to journalists in Uyo on Wednesday, Rep. Esin who represents Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko/Urueoffong Oruko Federal Constituency praised the governor’s foresight, particularly the promise to appoint a commissioner under the age of 45 to head the ministry.

He noted that this move aligns with the need to ensure that youth development takes center stage in governance, enabling young people in Akwa Ibom State to be active participants in shaping their future.

“By creating a separate Ministry of Youth Development, Governor Umo Eno is sending a strong message about the importance of focusing on the needs of our youth,” Rep. Esin said.

“The appointment of a young commissioner will strengthen the connection between the government and the youth. This way, their voices will be heard and their potential harnessed for the benefit of the state,” he added.

The lawmaker said the governor’s latest move will promote leadership opportunities for young people in Akwa Ibom State.
