At the end of a town hall meeting called by the Akwa Ibom state governor, Pastor Umo Eno, labour leaders, youths, students, Civil Society Organisations (CSO) traditional rulers and traders have all accepted to boycott the August 1st national protest.
The town hall held at the government house Banquet Hall was tagged “Come Let’s Us Reason Together” was aimed at finding solutions to the current economic difficulties facing the state.
Governor Eno sued for continued peace and dialogue, reeling out massive people-oriented interventions to provide succour for the people. The stakeholders, who were initially planning a national protest, backed down and denounced the planned protest in the state.
Instead, they urged citizens and residents to partner with the government to find solutions to the current economic difficulties. Security agencies assured the public of safety of lives and property, advising workers and citizens to go about their businesses without fear.
In a significant move, Governor Eno announced the constitution of a petroleum task force comprising petroleum chain stakeholders, labour, and civil society groups to ensure cost regulation and product availability.
