Contrary to his earlier position that an impactful single term is better than a wasteful two terms, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom state seems to have made a turn as he indicates interest in re-election in the 2027 governorship poll.

Speaking at the Government House Banquet Hall when he received Rt. Hon Asuquo Udo who crossed from the Young Progressive Party (YPP) to the PDP, Eno said he was delighted to have the lawmaker back under the PDP umbrella.

“I lost Ikono state constituency in the last election because they voted YPP but I am sure that I will win my re-election now that their lawmaker has joined us.”

He commended the former lawmaker for being part of the House that gives support to his administration in the overall interest of Akwa Ibom people despite being a member of the opposition party.

“One thing I must point out here is that being in the opposition does not mean destroying relationship with people. Throughout his time in YPP he maintained his relationship and when I send executive bills to the House he joins others to look at it dispassionately in the interest of our people.

Presenting the former lawmaker to the state chairman of PDP, Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong disclosed that the former YPP lawmaker returned to PDP following the sterling performance of Governor Umo Eno in his first one year in office.

In a letter of resignation from YPP sighted by National Witness, the lawmaker listed the division in his party as a reason for his return to the PDP.
Rt. Hon Asuquo Nana Udo was first elected in 2019 on the platform of PDP into the 7th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly but lost nomination for a second term which prompted his movement to YPP where he won the party’s ticket to fly the its flag in the 2023 general elections.

Meanwhile the political class appears satisfied with the performance of the state governor in the last one year thereby puting calls on him to prepare for re-election in 2027.

Recently, Uyo Senatorial District Elders Forum led by senator Effiong Bob called on the governor to prepare himself for a re-election as the forum passed a vote of confidence on him for sterling leadership that has brought peace and development to the state.
