53 Disabled Constituents in Essien Udim state constituency smile as lawmaker splashes cash, food and clothing materials
In continuation of the celebration of his first one year as lawmaker representing Essien Udim state constituency, 53 persons living with disabilities have smiled home with cash, food item and wrappers.
The donation was the highlight of a town hall meeting between the lawmaker, Hon. Prince Ukpong Akpabio, and persons with disabilities, women and youths.
Prince Akpabio, who is the Deputy Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Economic Development and Planning also supported three physically challenged with business grants of N150,000 each to expand their businesses.
The event also featured presentation of a special anniversary business support grant of N200, 000 and N150,000 to 13 indigenes among them, five women, five youths and three persons with disabilities.
It could be recalled that Prince Ukpong Akpabio had earlier gone round 12 out of the 13 wards in Essien Udim and presented business support grant of N100,000 each to 20 indigenes.

The last ward (Ukana West Ward 2) will take their turn Sunday, 16th August, 2024 being the finale of his anniversary celebration.
At the town hall meeting which took place at Essien Udim Local Government Council Headquarters, Afaha Ikot Ebak, wife of the lawmaker, Mrs Ndifreke Ukpong Akpabio also donated 20 pairs of wrappers to persons with disabilities in support of her husband’s gesture.
Addressing the people, the Essien Udim representative, described the physically challenged as the most ignored in the society, stressing he was emotionally touched putting smiles on the faces of those who need it the most.

He assured that he would do everything possible to continue to support the education and empowerment of the physically challenged so that they can engage in trades, artisanship and other businesses to earn a living, rather than begging.
Prince Akpabio who was accompanied by his AkeminiAwasi Campaign Organisation also treated persons with disabilities to a party and took time to distribute the food item and wrappers to each of them to the admiration of the audience.

ETINAN COUNCIL PARTNERS OFFICE OF THE FIRST LADY TO MARK 2026 WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK WITH GIFTS FOR PREGNANT WOMEN, NURSING MOTHERS
Pregnant women and nursing mothers in Etinan Local Government Area had cause to smile as the Ibom Open Maternity Project stormed the Primary Health Centre Base along Secretariat Road, Etinan to celebrate world breastfeeding week 2026.

The outreach forms part of the ongoing IOM Medical Mission aimed at boosting maternal and child health through the distribution of essential care packages and medical support to beneficiaries.
Representing the Executive Chairman of Etinan LGA, Hon. Uko Umoh, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Imaobong Michael, thanked the organizers of the Ibom Open Maternity Project for selecting Etinan as one of the host communities for the 2026 World Breastfeeding Week activities. She described the initiative as timely and impactful.

The Council boss reiterated the readiness of his administration to partner individuals and organisations that seek to promote the well-being of mothers and children.
Hon Uko Umoh commended the coordinator,office of the First Lady, Noble Lady Helen Eno Obareki,for bringing this awareness to the doorsteps of women in our various communities.

Leading the delegation from the Office of the First Lady, Akwa Ibom State, the GIFA Team Lead, Pastor Anne Abraham, highlighted the advantages of exclusive breastfeeding. According to her, it boosts a baby’s immune system, supports healthy growth and development, and helps reduce infant deaths.

She noted that the programme was delivered in collaboration with CARELIFE Character Foundation, ALGON, WALGON, IbomAir, ECEWS, and CCCRN under the Maternal and Child Healthcare component of the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA). She encouraged beneficiaries to make full use of the antenatal, postnatal and other health services provided by the team of medical professionals at the event.

In her goodwill message, Mrs. Emily Uko Umoh, wife of the Council Chairman, lauded the Carelife Character Foundation for extending the IOM Project to rural areas. She pledged her support for GIFA and other interventions that bring relief and better healthcare to women and children. She also appreciated the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for his commitment to quality health care delivery.

She further urged mothers to attend antenatal clinics regularly, practice exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, maintain good nutrition, ensure routine immunization, and follow medical advice for the wellbeing of both mother and child.

The highpoints of the programme were the distribution of GIFA Patcare packs and gift items by the wife of the Etinan Council Chairman to expectant and nursing mothers, free medical checks, lab tests and counseling, as well as on-the-spot enrollment into the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Scheme by officials of the Agency.

AKWA IBOM STATE POLICE COMMAND REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY POLICING
The Akwa Ibom state Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to community policing in the fight against crime in the state.

According to Press Statement made available to newsmen in Uyo by the Police Public Relations Officer. DSP Timfon John, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Baba Mohammed Azare fsi, MNIPR, stated this when he received National Executive of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), alongside the Akwa Ibom State PCRC Chairman and Executive Members, on a courtesy visit in his office.
The visit provided an avenue for meaningful engagement on strengthening the existing partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the PCRC towards promoting public safety, improving operational efficiency, and advancing community-oriented policing initiatives across the State.
A major highlight of the visit was the presentation of a professional camera to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command by the PCRC. The donation, made in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+) NPM, and the recommendation of the PCRC National Chairman, is aimed at enhancing the Command’s public relations, documentation, and strategic communication capabilities, while supporting effective information management and public engagement.

Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, Mnipr expressed profound appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+) NPM, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to strengthening community policing and fostering strategic partnerships that enhance operational effectiveness across Commands. AKWA IBOM STATE POLICE COMMAND DECORATES TWO NEW ASSISTANT COMMISSIONERS OF POLICE, CONDUCTS HEPATITIS SCREENING FOR PERSONNEL
A strategic conference was held on Monday August 3rd, 2026 by the the Akwa Ibom State Police Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi,.

The conference according to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, also featured the decoration of newly promoted Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) and a Hepatitis screening exercise for officers and personnel.
In a press statement made available to newsmen in Uyo on Tuesday August 4th, the hepatitis screening is to reaffirm the Command’s commitment to operational excellence, personnel development, and officers’ welfare.

The Strategic Conference brought together senior officers of the Command to review the security situation across the State, assess ongoing operational activities, and strengthen strategies aimed at enhancing intelligence-led policing, crime prevention, public safety, and efficient service delivery. The Commissioner of Police charged officers to remain disciplined, proactive, and professional in the discharge of their constitutional duties, while sustaining synergy, intelligence gathering, and operational effectiveness to further enhance security across Akwa Ibom State.
A major highlight of the programme was the decoration of senior officers recently promoted from the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). The newly decorated officers are:

* ACP Augustine Udourioh Joseph
The Commissioner of Police congratulated the officers on their well-deserved promotion and reminded them that their elevation represents a greater call to leadership, accountability, and selfless service. He urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary conduct, integrity, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the ideals and core values of the Nigeria Police Force.

As part of activities promoting personnel welfare, the Command’s Medical Services Department conducted Hepatitis screening for officers and personnel in commemoration of World Hepatitis Day. The exercise was aimed at promoting early detection, raising awareness, encouraging preventive healthcare, and reinforcing the importance of regular medical check-ups among police personnel.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated that the health, welfare, and professional development of officers remain indispensable to effective policing. He assured the good people of Akwa Ibom State that the Command will continue to strengthen its operational capacity, uphold professionalism, and sustain proactive policing strategies to safeguard lives and property and maintain public peace and security across the State.
