The Acting Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) Barr. Olusegun Omotola has been charged to restore sanity to the procurement process in Ministeries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs.

The Chairman, House of Representatives’ Committee on Public Procurement, Rt Hon. Unyime Idem gave the charge when he received the Acting BPP Director General in his office on a courtesy visit at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

Hon Idem urged the new BPP Chief to “work hard to bring sanity to the Bureau of Public Procurement and the procurement process in MDAs.”

The representative of Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom state assured the BPP DG that the committee will liaise with the leadership of the House of Representatives to enhance funding of the agency to enable it exercise its duties diligently.

On his part, the Acting DG of BPP, Barr. Olusegun Omotola, said the visit was to familiarize with the committee and decried inadequate funding as the agency’s major challenge.

He noted that lack of funding has inhibited the agency from carrying out proper oversight on MDAs and therefore appealed to the Public Procurement Committee to facilitate adequate funding for the agency to be able to discharge its functions adequately.
