Reactions trail appointment of 12 new Judges for FCT High Court

Nigerians have reacted to the appointment of 12 Judges to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory

Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission,Professor Chidi Odinkalu says 60 percent of the appointees are related to either retired or serving judges.

He expressed strong concerns alleging that the selection process was rigged and full of nepotism as three of the new Judges were related to people who made the appointment.

Also in a trending article titled Rule by judges not rule of law, professor Chidi Odinkalu
argued that the credibility of the courts must not be weakened by the perception that courts can be influenced by any external pressure.

“Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital, is a place where mutual intercourse between lawyers, politicians & judges is both natural & habitual. In recent times, the pace of reproduction & production from that kind of intercourse in Abuja has been dizzying”


In the comment section another Nigerian, Dokun Ojomo listed those appointed that have direct relationship with judicial figures in the country to included Ariwoola Oluwakemi Victoria, daughter in law to the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Munirat Tanko, daughter of the Ex CJN, Buetnaan Bassi, daughter of Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, Hauwa Gummi, daughter of the former Chief Judge of the FCT High Court.
