The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission, Dr Dorothy Thompson has commended the peaceful conduct of PDP nomination exercise across the State.
She also called on victorious aspirants to be magnanimous in victory as well as called on those who lost in the exercise to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship by maintaining decorum and party loyalty.
Dr Thompson who said this after monitoring the exercise in her hometown of Ibeno Local Government Area and feedback from across the State observed that the outcome squashed all speculations that the process may be marred by violence given the ongoing nationwide protest in some parts of the country.
She lauded Governor Umo Eno not only for maintaining law, and order and keeping the State peaceful amid chaos around the country but for creating a conducive atmosphere for all political parties to freely conduct their affairs without hindrance, attributing the feat to the grace he carries as a Son of Peace.
The EARCOM Chairman congratulated those who won to emerge as Chairmanship or Councillorship candidates and tasked them to be magnanimous in victory while she appealed to those who lost in the exercise to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship by maintaining decorum and party loyalty.
She further charged those who won to carry on their campaigns within the law and deal with issues, while avoiding fake news, blackmail of opponents or violence, to ensure peaceful conduct before. During and after the upcoming Local Government Election
On the ongoing nationwide protest, Dr Thompson commended citizens and residents of Akwa Ibom State for heeding the earlier advisory issued by the Commission and the pleas of the Governor to shun the protests, which she observed, had turned into a looting spree, vandalisation of public and private property, arson, 24-hour curfews, death, destruction, arrests and tears in some parts of the country.
