The member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Rt.Hon Unyime Idem, has assured Nigerians of the National Assembly’s resolve to expedite action on amendment of the Electoral Act, 2022.
The lawmaker who chairs the House Committee on Public Procurement, gave the assurance when the INEC chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu led a delegation from his commission on a courtesy visit to him at the National Assembly complex, Abuja.
According to the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal lawmaker, “it is our primary responsibility to make laws and amend relevant provisions when necessary, to steer the ship of governance.
Therefore, I’m assuring you and Nigerians that the National Assembly will give expeditious attention to the amendment of the 2022 Electoral Act to meet the yearnings and aspirations of citizens.”
Earlier, the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the courtesy visit to Rt. Hon Unyime Idem was to enlist the National Assembly’s commitment on the amendment of the Electoral Act, 2022.
“As a commission saddled with the responsibility of conducting national and state elections in the country, we’re suing the support of all actors in order to make this national assignment a reality”, Yakubu concluded.
Recall that the House of Representatives in February passed for second reading, a bill to amend the 2022 Electoral Act by making electronic transmission of results mandatory.
The bill seeks to revisit the controversial electronic transmission of results that was rejected during the last review.
