The vulnerable population from over 76 villages in Etim Ekpo have been provided with free food items courtesy of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno.
The exercise which took place at the Local Government Council headquarters in Utu, Etim Ekpo saw the items presented through the Bulk Purchase Agency to the over 5000 beneficiaries.
Dr. Dan Akpan, Executive Chairman of the Bulk Purchase Agency, emphasized the programme’s inclusivity, noting that it is for all citizens, regardless of party affiliation. “This initiative fulfills the Governor’s promise to support those in need,” he said.
He said the Food Security Programme is a novel programme by Governor Eno, targeted at alleviating the economic hardship faced by the people.
Dr. Akpan emphasised that the timely initiative was open to everyone whose name is registered in the social register accredited by the world bank.
Speaking at the event, the transition chairman of Etim Ekpo, Mr. Ekpuk Eshiet described the Governor’s leadership as sensitive and responsive to the needs of the people.
He highlighted the programme’s scope, stating that 5,000 vulnerable individuals across 11 wards, 76 villages, and 111 units will receive essential foodstuffs, rice, beans and garri.
He commended the peaceful disposition of the people of his area, insisting that they were all happy that Governor Eno was interested in their well being.
Prof. Imo Moffat, Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, urged beneficiaries to embrace the “#BackToFarm” initiative, emphasizing the government’s limited capacity to provide for all citizens.
Beneficiaries, including Nseobong Samuel and Madam Patience Micah, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his compassion.
Comrade Saviour Godwin, Youth President of Otu Ikot Onko, praised Governor Eno’s leadership and provision of healthcare and food.
