APC Nomination Exercise: A Reflection of Our Party’s Ideal – Ita Enang

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Sen. Ita Enang, has commended the party’s stakeholders and members for a peaceful and successful nomination process for the upcoming local government elections.

Addressing thousands of party faithful at the party’s secretariat in Okoita, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Enang praised the party’s commitment to internal democracy and peaceful resolution of conflicts.

“I am proud of our party members and stakeholders for their cooperation and dedication to our party’s ideals. The peaceful nomination process is a testament to our party’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law.”

The nomination process, which took place on Saturday, 3rd August, 2024 saw the emergence of 31 chairmanship and 368 councillorship candidates for the APC in the upcoming local government elections. The party’s primary elections were conducted across the 31 local government areas of the state, with party delegates voting to select their preferred candidates.

Dr. Enang who is a former Presidential Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the process, saying it was a reflection of the party’s strength and unity.

“The peaceful nomination process is a clear indication that our party is united and ready to take over the reins of power in Akwa Ibom State.”

The APC chieftain also commended the party’s leadership for providing guidance and support during the nomination process. “We appreciate the support and guidance provided by our party’s leadership, which ensured a smooth and peaceful nomination process.”

Sen. Ita Enang was on ground at his Ward, Ididep Ward 3 where Mr. Ekanem Jacob Udofia emerged as the councillorship candidate having scored 2,350 votes.

With the nomination process now completed, the APC is expected to focus on its campaign strategy and mobilize its supporters across the state. The party has promised to run an issue-based campaign, focusing on the needs and aspirations of the people of Akwa Ibom State.

In Ibiono Ibom LG, Mr. Fidelis Asuquo emerged as the APC chairmanship candidate, after he won with 8,200 votes. He hails from Use Abat in Western Ward 4.

The local government elections are seen as a crucial test for both the APC and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections. Political analysts say the APC’s performance in the local government elections will be a litmus test for its chances in the general elections.
