Zoning PDP Presidential ticket to the south does not preclude anyone from aspiring- Abba Moro

Senate Minority Leader, Patrick Abba More has debunked claims that zoning the PDP Presidential ticket to the southern part of Nigeria has precluded some people from aspiring to be president of Nigeria in 2027.
The senator stated this when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television programme, Politics Today, on Tuesday night monitored by National Witness.
He reaffirmed that the decision is that of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party which is based on equity, fairness and justice.
The distinguished senator maintained that such decision does not preclude anyone from aspiring for the highest office in the land.
Going down memory lane, he recalled that in the PDP primary election of 2002, the nomination exercise was thrown open to all members of the party irrespective of their geographical zone even when the party knew that the ticket will remain in the south.
” As a sitting President, Olusegun Obasanjo contested for the party’s ticket with the likes of Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, Senator Ike Oma Sanda Nwachukwu and Chief Barnabas Gemade. So the constitution of the party is very clear in line with its motto of equity, fairness and justice”
Senator Moro said PDP has learnt from its mistake in 2022 where it threw the party’s Presidential ticket open saying, that was done in an attempt to wrestle power out of the hands of the APC.
He described the PDP as a big brand that is deeply rooted in the heart of many Nigerians pointing out that, at the moment, there are more than three presidential aspirants jostling for the party’s nomination.
“The decision of 2022 backfired. Nigerians spoke against it and the party has realized that it was an error for a northern to succeed another northerner”
On the issue of bringing Peter Obi back to the PDP, senator Moro said having him on the ballot as the flag bearer of the PDP will be a big upset in the political calculations in favour of PDP in the 2027 presidential election.
