A former United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Trafficking, Professor Joy Ezeilo has identified politicization of security issues and extreme unprofessionalism as reason Nigeria is in a dire security situation.

The ex-Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, shared this insight on her social media platform on Friday following the invitation extended to the President of NLC by the Nigeria Police Force.

Ezeilo pointed out the reason behind Nigeria’s ongoing insecurity is how those accountable prioritize insignificant issues.

She expressed that this matter should have been handled privately to avoid unnecessary disputes.

Her post on X (Twitter) “If the details I heard about the police questioning of NLC Leader Joe Ajaero are accurate, then we’re in serious trouble with the politicization of security matters and extreme unprofessionalism.

“What kind of leaders are making decisions about our security as a nation? It’s obvious why Nigeria is plagued by insecurity when those in charge are focused on trivial issues.

“This matter should have been handled discreetly to prevent unnecessary controversies. Enough is enough! There’s no time to waste in addressing the significant security challenges facing the country.”

“Police, it’s high time for tangible actions, not mere words or political maneuvers. Show us the change we need to see.”
