The tenure of Honourable Uko Umoh as chairman of the Transition Committee has ended on a high note with inauguration of revamped water and electricity projects.
Communities where Water projects were inaugurated include
Ikot Akpa Ese, Efa, Nkana, Ndon Utim, Etinan Urban, Edem Ekpat and Ikot Akpabio.
Beside revamping the water projects, giant generating sets were also donated to each of the communities to facilitate supply of portable water to the rural dwellers.
The transition committee chairman also facilitated the replacement of an old electricity transformer at Mbioto Ekpene Ituen while Iman road in Etinan Urban and Ikot Akpabio had earlier enjoyed such benevolence from the chairman.
It could be recalled that in January 2024 barely one month in office, the Transition Committee Chairman had set up a committee to investigate government projects that are either abandoned or are no longer functioning in the 64 villages in the Local Government Area.
The recommendations made by the committee became a working tool for the chairman who has brought great relief to the people in the benefitting communities.
Speaking at Mbioto Ekpene Ituen where he commissioned the newly installed transformer, Hon Uko Umoh said his interest is to implement the ARISE Agenda of the state government in Etinan Local Government Area.
According to him, the ARISE Agenda is all about rural development which explains why he undertook the rehabilitation of those projects which once served the people but were either vandalized or got spoiled over time.
Hon Uko Umoh urged communities to protect facilities delivered at their door-steps as government will not return to fix the same project that had received attention.
” Let me say it here that government will not come back to replace a transformer that was vandalized as a result of the community carelessness. I will personally tell the governor not to do it. So you must take ownership of this project and protect it as you protect your own homes” he stated.
In a welcome address, the acting village Head of Mbioto Ekpene Ituen, Obong Emmanuel Elijah Aniema, thanked the chairman for facilitating the replacement of the damaged transformer assuring him of continuous support of Mbioto and by extension southern Iman ward 5 in the forthcoming local government elections.
“Let me reiterate that Mbioto Ekpene Ituen has taken ownership of this transformer and we will do all within our power to protect it.”
Those who also spoke include Rt. Hon Samuel Ikon, deputy village head of Mbioto Ekpene Ituen, Obong Ubong Inwang and the PDP ward chairman for Southern Iman ward 5, Reverend Anietie Ekpo who all thanked the chairman for restoring light to Mbioto community.
In a chat with National Witness the Chief Executive Officer of SamSharon Global Concept Ltd, Mr Samuel Sampson commended the transition chairman for restoring light to Mbioto community during his tenure.
According to him, it has been a long time when a local government chairman embarked on any project that has positive impact on the lives of the people especially those in the rural communities.
“What Hon Uko Umoh has done in Etinan in the last eight month is record breaking and history that will be difficult to break. What he has done is why local government system was put in place in the first place and I am so happy it is starting from Etinan Local Government Area under the leadership of Hon Uko Umoh ” he declared.
