The Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) has intensified efforts to restore order and safeguard public safety by removing illegal structures and shanties along Ring Road 3, Nwaniba, and Airport Road by Customs.
The Chairman of UCCDA, Hon. Anietie Eka, said the operation was carried out to prevent the dangers posed by indiscriminate development.
“Some of the structures were erected under high-tension power lines, others encroached beyond approved building lines, while some stood on lands already acquired and compensated for by government. Such violations put lives at risk and cannot be overlooked,” he stated.
Hon. Eka explained that the exercise also targeted the reclamation of government-designated green areas that had been overtaken by shanties and roadside trading. He stressed that these spaces are essential for beautification, landscaping, and environmental sustainability, all of which form part of the master plan for a modern Uyo.
“Green areas are not for private or commercial use; they are for the collective benefit of the city. By reclaiming and restoring them, we are creating a healthier, safer, and more beautiful environment for all,” he added.
He appealed to residents and developers to always obtain proper clearance from UCCDA before embarking on any construction, emphasizing that “life is more valuable than any profit.”
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to building a safer, orderly, and modern capital city in line with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE agenda.
