The model farm initiative of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area is gearing up for a second phase having successfully completed the first phase of cultivation with a bountiful harvest recorded.

Nsit Ibom Model Farm is a back-to-farm initiative of the Transition Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Hon. Otobong Aaron, in consolidation with the ARISE Agenda of Pastor Umo Eno, in a bid to enhance food sufficiency in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area and Akwa Ibom State at large.

The first phase witnessed the successful cultivation of tomatoes, ball pepper, sweet corn, okro, water melon, yams (afia udia) and cucumbers.

Apart from watermelon and yams which takes a longer period of time to be ready for harvest, all other aforementioned crops had been successfully harvested and economically put to use to generate Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the Nsit Ibom Local Government Council. The melon which was systematically combined with white yam (afia-udia) is ready for lifting for further processing procedure while the yams are doing well.

Meanwhile, plans for the commencement of the phase II are in top gear as the farmers are preparing the nursery section and getting the farm ready for another massive cultivation.
