Ndon Eyo 2, Etinan local government area under security seige,
Community deserted

…we have made arrest and charged some to court—-DPO

…We need security presence in our community – Eteidung John Udo Etuk

It is an ugly sight to behold in Ndon Eyo 2, a o in Etinan local government area, Akwa Ibom State.

Like a war torn zone, the streets have been derserted as families are forced to flee for the safety of their lives. Away from the main entrance into the community which has been tarred, other streets that were once neatly swept through community effort have become bushy, overgrown with wild grasses.

Houses have been burnt, property destroyed and sadly too one person has been allegedly reported dead.

Narrating his ordeal, Pastor Sabastine Michael told a tale of unwarranted and unprovoked attack on him and his family.
According to him, it was around 8:00 in the morning when some cult boys in the community stormed his house seeking to eliminate him with shouts of ‘fall him down” while he was away at the palace of the village head who had sent for him.

That was what saved his life. If I had not heeded the palace call that morning and the hoodlums/cult boys met him at home it would have been a different story. He continued.
They ransacked everywhere, carted away valuables worth 7.5 million naira.
Since on the 18th day of July that the DPO Etinan, SP Felix EkpoUdom rescued me from the village,I have not stepped into my house in the village. Insecurity has displaced me. I am homeless and stranded.

On the bushy paths that were once clean swept, we arrived the home of the deputy village head, Pastor Imo Okon, a palm oil merchant who lost a staggering amount of his capital in the attack. He puts his lost at over five million. His house was badly damaged and vandalised. Unlike Pastor Sabastine Michael who does not want to settle in the village again, Pastor Imo Okon says he will like to return home as quickly as possible. “I am now a refugee”

The family of Mr. Monday Etukudoh Ifot was not so lucky to escape as one person, a senior secondary school two class girl, Blessing, who resisted rape attempt was stabbed to death and the house of Sabastine Eyo Ifot was burnt with an oil palm mill inside.

“The lost is huge and unprecedented in the history of this village, they raped our women and young girls”. Pastor Sabastine lamented

Eteidung John Udo Etuk said the root cause of the current insecurity in Ndon Eyo 2 started when a notorious drug leader, Udo Sunday Etukudoh Eshiet was arrested by the police. This led to reprisal attack by other members of the gang led by Ime Monday Nkekwere, Aniebiet Monday Paul (Awee).
Eteidung John Udo Etuk narrates how the hoodlums broke into his house and looted all his properties. Since we have deserted the village, the hoodlums now have a field day harvesting other people’s economic tress like palm fruits and plantains. “Many drums of oil have been emptied and they are using firearms and other dangerous weapons to intimidate the people”

Eteidung appealed for security presence in the community as the the cult boys are still on rampage beating a Catholic priest to comma. We want peace in our community and financial and material compensation to help re-settle the victims.

Speaking with this reporter, the councillor representing Etinan Urban ward 2 in Etinan legislative council Hon Uduak Sunday said it was a very pathetic situation that such uprising could happen within his ward.
He condemned the action of the youth for taking the laws into their hands which has resulted in the Lost of life and property in the once peaceful village.

He advocated the establishment of a security post in the community to checkmate hoodlums from coming in from neighboring local government since the village is a border community with another local government.

Hon Uduak Sunday assured the victims that the local government will look into their plight so as to take away the fear and settle them appropriately.

In a telephone conversation, the Divisional Police Officer for Etinan division, SP. Felix EkpoUdom said the police has made arrest of some suspects who have been charged to court.

Also speaking, the executive chairman of Etinan local government area, Dr Cletus Ekpo said the security situation is under control at the moment and those who fled have been asked to return home as everything has been put in place to ensure safety of lives and property.
