Despite threat, pleas and financial inducement by political leaders to some youths to shun the national protest, angry youths protesting against bad governance in Nigeria shut the main entrance of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), headquarters Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
The youths in their thousands marched on the second day of the 10 days protest began from pleasure park along Aba Road, stormed the NDDC gate through the government house main gate, demanding improved living conditions and better leadership.
Armed with placards with several inscriptions such as “We deserve better, “we are saying no to high fuel price, food price, hunger and bad governance” the youths begged President Bola Tinubu to address their grievances, saying, “We will not be silenced. We demand action, not silence.”
At the Federal secretariat along Aba road, Port Harcourt the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, appealed to the youths to maintain their peaceful disposition,warning against unruly behavior.
The CP emphasized the importance of exercising their right to protest without disrupting the daily lives of others.
He specifically cautioned against obstructing vehicular and human movement, urging the protesters to keep their actions orderly and lawful.
Meanwhile the protest is gradually spreading to states in the south that had seemed to opt out of the planned national protest.
