Gov Lawal Sets up Anti-Corruption Tribunal to recover government property

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, on Tuesday inaugurated Chairmen and members of the Zamfara State Anti-Corruption Tribunal, State Rent Tribunal, State Lands Allocation and Development Rules and Regulations Enforcement Tribunal.

A statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said that the ceremony took place at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Gusau.

The statement explained that the appointment is in accordance with the provisions of section 4 (7) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) which empowers the Zamfara State House of Assembly to make laws for the good governance of the State, particularly on items that are not within the Exclusive Legislative List.It said this gave rise to the establishment of the tribunals and appointment of chairmen and members.The statement said, “Governor Lawal charged the chairman and members of the Anti-Corruption, Rent and Land Allocation tribunals to discharge their duties diligently with the utmost sense of responsibility, integrity, competence, and trust.“Section 15 (5) of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), as part of the political objectives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, enjoins Nigeria as a nation and invariably the states to take necessary steps to abolish corrupt practices and abuse of power.”“The Governor also lamented the damage done to democracy and socio-economic well-being of the people due to corruption and abuse of office.“Chairmen and members of the tribunals were not inaugurated to witch-hunt anybody for political reasons but to concentrate on how to recover, if any, monies and property of the good people of Zamfara State that might have been diverted to individual pockets or ownership as the case may be.”Justice Nasiru Umar Gummi is Chairman of the State Anti-Corruption Tribunal.
