The local government administration in Etinan Local Government Area has procured and distributed 20,000 copies of note books to the 41 public Primary schools in the area.
The distribution exercise carried out by the Supervisor for Education, Hon. Ime Okpon in company of the Director for Education, Mrs Inimbom Edet as well as the Personal Assistant to the Chairman on Student Affairs, Comrade Solomon Joseph, took the team across the length and breadth of the local government area.
Addressing staff and pupils of St Paul’s Catholic School, Ikot Esen Oku, the Supervisor for Education, Hon. Ime Okpon said the gesture by the local government under the leadership of Hon Uko Umoh is to strengthen the free and compulsory education policy of the state government as captured in the ARISE Agenda.
He commended the council boss for bringing relief to peasant families through the donation of writing materials for pupils and charged teachers to give their best in raising future leaders.
Also speaking the Director of Education, Mrs Inimbom Edet, called on the pupils to take their studies serious as education remains the key to success in life.
She commended the governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for giving education the priority it deserves under his administration as seen in the free and compulsory education policy, the building of model schools across the state, welfare of teachers and even retirees which she said was a major boost to those still in service.
On his part, the Personal Assistant to the chairman on Student Affairs, Comrade Joseph Solomon commended the Chairman of Council for keying into the ARISE Agenda of the state government in Etinan local government area.
He listed programmes of the administration of Hon Uko Umoh in the education sector to include purchase of UTME forms for 500 students, educational grants to students with disabilities, procurement of uniforms for staff and pupils of Government Model School, Ikot Isong and the setting up of a committee to handle the payment of bursary to students of Etinan origin in public tertiary institutions.
Receiving the gift, the head teacher, Mr. Aniedi Sunday Nsekpong, thanked the Chairman for the gesture describing it as a timely intervention.
He described education as the best gift from a father, saying Governor Umo Eno and Hon Uko Umoh have given the children the best gift that will prepare them for the future.
He gave the assurance that teachers in public schools will continue to give their best in service so as to place the children at the same level with their contemporaries anywhere in the world.
