A total of 300 bags of 10kg rice donated by Dangote group have been shared to vulnerable groups in Etinan local government area.
The beneficiaries include 40 persons living with disabilities and 260 widows selected from the 12 wards of the local government area.
Presenting the gift to the beneficiaries, the chairman of Council, Hon Uko Umoh, thanked the governor, Pastor Umo Eno PhD, for maintaining good relationship across Nigeria that has continued to attract goodwill to the people of the state.
Hon Umoh said it was important to remember the women who are always very supportive during elections describing them as his political structure going forward.
“When this gift came to Etinan, I would have chosen to share it using the party structures but that would not have gotten to the people that are always there for us.
“I therefore decided to channel it to the widows and people living with disabilities as the remain the most vulnerable set in our society”
The council boss called on the beneficiaries to join him in praying for peace and development in Etinan local government area.
Speaking at the sideline, the Personal Assistant to the governor on people living with disabilities (PLWD), Comrade Ubong Ikpe, thanked God for giving Akwa Ibom leaders that have the interest of the people at heart.
“Hon Uko Umoh runs an inclusive administration in Etinan where people with disabilities are well accommodated. This is not the first time we are receiving gifts here. He has the interest of the people and truly, this is the new Iman we have been praying for”
Comrade Ikpe also appreciated Dangote group for donating food items to the most vulnerable in the society.
Some widows who spoke with this reporter include Mrs Grace Paulinus, Antonia Patrick Linus, Alice Bassey Joseph, who all appreciated the chairman of Council and his dear wife for remembering the widows to give them food, praying God to bless and keep them.
For Kenneth Effiong Emmanson, a physically challenged beneficiary, this is not the first time Hon Uko Umoh has invited them to receive gift.
According to him, only during the tenure of Hon Uko Umoh that people living with disabilities have been remembered in the scheme of things.
“The chairman prays for peace and development and I join him in agreement that peace and development will come to Etinan during his time and beyond” he prayed.
Present during the sharing were the wife of the Chairman, Mrs Emily Uko Umoh, Council Secretary, Hon Idorenyin Udo, Supervisors, Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Pastor Ubong Inyang, APC woman leader in Etinan local government area, Mrs Kufre Udom and the Etinan chapter coordinator of People Living With Disabilities, Deaconess Dominica Akpan.
