Akwa Ibom Sports Festival opens in Uyo

The 2025 Akwa Ibom Sports Festival tagged Ibom 2025 has opened in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.
The state governor, Pastor Umo Eno PhD, was represented at the opening ceremony by the deputy governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi PhD.
Addressing participants and sports loving Akwa Ibom people at the Uyo Township Stadium, the governor said the sports festival is a fulfilment of his campaign promise to deploy resources in the development of sports that will engage our youths and export them to the world.
The governor maintained that sports globally is a very lucrative enterprise mentioning the likes of Saka of Arsenal football club, Troost Ekong and Moses Itauma, as examples.
“To develop talents and hand them over to agents and managers for global reckoning.
“The aim of this sports festival is to discover more of such talents who will fly our flag and bring us laurels in the future.
“It is also on record that during my tenure that a stand alone Ministry of Sports was created.
“We have also developed sports facilities in the state especially the nine hole gulf course at ARISE resort due for opening for December 2025”
The governor urged the athletes who will be competing in the 18 sports activities spread across different centres to put up their best, build friendship and win laurels for themselves and the state.
