All is now set for the celebration of World HIV/ AIDS day in Akwa Ibom State.

Activities have been lined up for the celebration which will climax on Friday 1st of December 2023.

According to Akwa Ibom state Agency for the Control of AIDS has already rolled out its drums to commemorate the day which began with a thanksgiving at the Apostolic Church Obio Imo ,Uyo field.

The Project Manager AKSACA ,Dr Enobong Akpan who led the team announced that World AIDS Day has been an annual event celebrated all over the globe and the theme for Nigeria this year 2023 is’ Let the Community Leads, explaining that the involvement of the Community leaders would combat the scourge.

He described the commemoration as an empathy celebration of those living with HIV, assuring them that it is not a death sentence and also sympathized with those that have lost their lives.

He reiterated that the hallmark of the celebration is to remind the populace that the HIV/AIDS is real.adding that the epidemic is not a killer disease .

Dr Akpan stressed that the virus could only kill when refusing to establish HIV status through testing and adhering to medical advise.

‘Enough is enough no more discrimination, no more disparity among HIV/AIDS infected persons’ Dr. Akpan admonished the congregants’. Adding that stigmatization could only do harm to the infected person while advising the congregation to show love and care to those living with HIV.

He charged the congregation that irrespective of their religion and profession,they should avail themselves of the free test including test for diabetes, hypertension, hepatitis and others conducted in the church premises in order to stay healthy.

Dr Enobong also added that those who tested negative would be given medical counsel and preventive drugs to completely stay safe.

Enobong Akpan who appreciated His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno for being passionate about the health and safety of sons and daughters of the state also thanked the Governor for the confidence he has reposed in him as the Project Manager to change the narrative of the health sector especially the State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS,

The Project Manager called for prayers from the church to enable the Agency succeed in their endeavours.

High point of the celebration of the World HIV/AIDS DAY was empowerment,free test and distribution of drugs to beneficiaries.

The event had the presence of Representative of National Agency for Control of HIV/AIDS NACA, Implementing Partners and Stakeholders.

It will climax on Friday 1st of December 2023 at the Christmas Park, Udo Udoma Avenue , Uyo Akwa Ibom state.
